Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” – the world’s most expensive painting?

The most recently authenticated (“rediscovered”) portrait of Jesus Christ has now become most expensive work of art ever sold with an auction price of $450.3 Million. Take a look at this 500 year old work of the Grand Master below:

Leonardo da Vinci – ‘Salvator Mundi’

Without doubt, this painting broke the previous record of both privately sold paintings and auctions. The previous titleholder was “The Card Players” by Paul Cézanne which was sold for $300 Million.

BUT… there are many paintings which have never seen an auction/sale and which are considered “priceless” and owned by sovereign governments. For instance what would be the value of Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous “MONA LISA”?  As per sources, in 1962, the insurance valuation for Mona Lisa was $100 Million, which basis inflation should be worth $800 Million today, thus making it the most valuable painting as per the Guinness Book of World Records.
